Amar Chitra Katha, a collection of timeless illustrated stories for the Under 15 age group is about creating space for Indian culture in the child’s mind, providing meaningful entertainment alternatives and bringing fun into the development of early learning skills is launching an all- new title on Mother Teresa on her 100th Birth Anniversary, on 26th August, 2010. Known for stories on epics and mytho, People – visionaries and brave hearts, fables/ folktales and classics, Amar Chitra Katha is coming up with this new title after four years.

“ACK Media is re-starting the launch of new titles in the Amar Chitra Katha series from August 2010. We will be launching a new title every two months now, with ‘Mother Teresa’ being the first one in the series”, said Ms. Savita Pai, VP- Product Management, ACK Media. “Mother Teresa was chosen as our come-back title because of the universality of the figure and 26th August 2010, being her sentinel year was a perfect date to launch the book and take it to every kid and household for them to learn about a noble figure like Mother and learn from her great deeds”, she added

The new Amar Chitra Katha on Mother Teresa is a 40 page story of Mother and has been created along with the Missionaries of Charity.

“While creating an Amar Chitra Katha, the primary concern is authenticity. We have done intense research, not just from from empirical recorded data sources and books but coupled with meetings and interviews with people who have known Mother closely, to form the basis of the script”, said Ms. Reena Puri, Editor, Amar Chitra Katha. “We volunteered with the missionaries and also met Sister Gertrude, who was one of the first two Sisters to join Mother Teresa for our research. Even the first synopsis and the script of the book were sent to the Missionaries of Charity, to check for authenticity and to clarify details”, she added.

The new title on Mother Teresa talks about how Mother being an Albanian, by birth, made India her home and from here reached out to the world to heal the disease of poverty and loneliness. What inspired a 12 year old girl to want to travel to a far away country to help the poor and how she reached out very specially to children and brought joy into thousands of little lives. Like all Amar Chitra Katha’s this book is also conveying a message to the country at large and which is simple, in a focussed and interesting manner. It is telling the children that it is never too early to fix a goal and to work towards it. The sketch style is a mix of Graphic art and ACK style.

Samir Patil CEO ACK Media Pvt Ltd says, “This is part of Amar Chitra Katha brand revival – we will focus on growing the book reading habits for children and bring in new titles at regular interval making it relevant for the new generation to know and connect with their country and societal ethos – Books are dangerous…they can change your life”
