PS-Prep | A Key New Resource in Business Continuity

PA- Business continuity blog ContinuityCompliance.org formally announced Thursday the release of a free, easy to understand diagram educating businesses on the Department of Homeland Security’s approved steps for private sector preparedness (PS-Prep).

The PS-Prep diagram is beneficial to companies because it puts what the DHS detailed in its November 17, 2009 conference in Chicago into a simple diagram. As experts in the area of business continuity, the blog editors of Continuity Compliance took the details of the PS-Prep plan and created the diagram so that all business owners can implement these standards into their disaster recovery plan.

PS-Prep is a set of business continuity standards approved by the government. These standards include ASIS SPC.1-2009, BS 25999-2: 2007, and the NFPA 1600: 2007. Details on these standards are available at ContinuityCompliance.org. The PS-Prep program helps businesses and companies secure their future in case of man made or natural disaster.

At their November conference, the DHS left room for comments and suggestions with a deadline for feedback of January 15. They will review suggestions from private business owners who attended the November conference and offer their full statement sometime in the near future. ContinuityCompliance.org has an entire page explaining the full context of PS-Prep (http://www.continuitycompliance.org/information/ps-prep- …).

In that, the website released complete statements given by the DHS and ANSI-ASQ National Accreditation Board (ANAB). The ASIS SPC.1-2009, BS 25999-2: 2007, and the NFPA 1600: 2007 are all standards included in the PS-Prep plan.

“The first order of business for the New Direction Congress, making America safer, was passage of H.R. 1, finally implementing the recommendations of the independent 9/11 Commission. While the Administration’s own National Intelligence Estimate conceded the war in Iraq made us less safe from terrorism, the 9/11 legislation was the long overdue, smart approach to ensuring homeland security,” said Nancy Pelosi on her website, House.gov/Pelosi/.

More information about the DHS, ANAB, and other details of PS-Prep can be found at ContinuityCompliance.org.

The PS-Prep tree diagram published by Continuity Compliance is an important resource for businesses that need to implement its standards for disaster recovery, but have yet to research the steps necessary. The tree diagram consists of three different sections: the players, the standards, and the process. Each section of the diagram is linked to specific paragraphs containing more details about PS-Prep.

ContinuityCompliance.org is a leading blog dedicated to staying on top of PS-Prep and other aspects of business continuity following natural disasters. The website has full details on the November DHS conference and information on the key players taking an active role in designing the PS-Prep plan. Plans to release a series of webinars to further help companies understand PS-Prep are also in discussion.
