Large CNC Machining & Milling Centre Installed & “Spitting Chips”
The new CNC machining centre started machining, or spitting metal chips last September. This machine with its twin table, pallet changer will improve turnaround time for large CNC machining jobs.
“It’s important for our company to remain at the leading edge of CNC machining technology for large CNC machines in Australia. It also means we can pass price efficiency onto our customers.” Said Steve Zakaria of Baker & Provan.
A secondary benefit of this new CNC machining centre will be to provide more competitive prices for medium size components, which have a reasonable quantity. That is, having 2 tables with a machining envelope of 6.25m x 3.5m means that this CNC machine will permit 2 or 3 medium size work pieces (say 2m x 3m) to be setup on each table.
As setup time can be quite considerable for setting up heavy work pieces, this means that while one table has 2 or 3 work pieces being machined, the operator can unload and reload multiple work pieces on the 2nd table. This has considerable flow on effects in terms of cost reduction, improved turnaround and a high quality finish.
