Thousands of Students Join National Green Cover Initiative Pledge to fight climate change

A group of 3000 students from DPS Public School came together on Monday to do their bit to fight climate change. They pledged to increase the green cover in their city and neighborhood, planted plant saplings. They also collected nearly 5000 plant saplings and promised to spread the message of green cover amongst their friends and families.

Sadhguru the champion of Project Green Hands and winner of Indira Gandhi Paryavaran award joined the green cover initiative taken up by the school students. He launched the project by planting the first sapling in the school campus in the presence of students, teachers and their principal Rekha Agarwala. The saplings were provided by TSS Projects, Hyderabad promoted by H Ramesh.

“The school and the children wanted to do something to increase the green cover in their city. I took this opportunity to talk to students there, telling them about the importance fighting the climate change and how cutting of trees is affecting our nature immensely. Our children have great potential to fight and lead the climate change challenges. This initiative is a great step towards realizing the dream of making their future beautiful.” Sadhguru said

This initiative is very timely since this is a monsoon season and a very appropriate moment to make sure that the children can do their bit to contribute to make the environment clean and green. Sadhguru added. The school children planted few saplings in the school campus.

Representatives from ISHA Foundation Project Green Hands, School Authorities and the TSS Project officials also joined these young nature lovers and they helped them plant the saplings in their school campus. Rekha Agarwala, Principal of DPS Public School said “It is a wonderful occasion to promote green initiative by children. TSS Projects provided us with free saplings of plants and ISHA Foundation helped us plant them. The school students pledged to go out, talk to more people and involve their parents and neighborhood so that more and more people can join the green cover initiative.”

The response and enthusiasm from schoolchildren who took part in the launch initiative were highly motivating and provided a great spectacle. Each of the students from DPS Public School participated in the event and each one of them besides planting a sapling pledged to more in the coming days. We are excited and it will be great to watch these plants grow. “We promise to take time each day to ensure that these saplings get good care and watch them grow into beautiful trees,” the students present at the function said in one voice
