Survey: The best football movies

While Germany dreams of a World Cup final, all the TV Stations adjust their programmes at „King Football“. Moviepilot (http://www.moviepilot.de), the largest filmcommunity of Germany, has made a representative survey to determine which one is the favorite football movie of the Germans. The result: „Deutschland – Ein Sommermärchen“ and „The Miracle of Bern“ are, by far, the favorite football movies of the nation. Sönke Wortmann’s successfull documentary about the last 2006 World Cup evokes good memories about the wonderful summer for the German national team – the film ended up with 42% of the votes in the first place. In a tight second place, another story of Wortmann, „The Miracle of Bern“, with 41% of the votes. This emotional drama about the World Cup won in 1954 and the beneficial effect it had on the war-damaged Germany, still touches us today. The third place, with 26% of the votes, has been for the British film „Bend it like Beckham“. This inspirational comedy is about a girl who wants to be a football player and has to fight against her traditional family to fulfill her dreams.

The Top 5 Football Movies

1st: Deutschland – Ein Sommermärchen
2nd: The Miracle of Bern
3rd: Bend it like Beckham
4th: Green Street Hooligans
5th: The Wild Soccer Bunch

The details of the survey are surprising: both men and women are equally interested in football. Independently of gender, only 29% of respondents are not interested in football movies. Also in the individual evaluation of films, both gender are largely in agreement. The differences has been noticed in the assessments among young and old people. As long as for the respondents between 16 and 19 years old „Bend it like Beckham“ is the clear favorite, most of the votes of respondents older than 60 are for the nostalgic „The Miracle of Bern“.

Moviepilot charged a survey to the statistic expert Statista. Over 1.000 people were interviewed. They could choose from 10 classic films about football, from „The Wild Soccer Bunch“ or „Goal! The Dream Begins“ to „Shaolin Soccer“. Multiple answers were possible.
