Sybase Recognized as Leader in Mobile Device Management Enterprise Software for Ninth Consecutive Year

Sybase, Inc., an SAP company (NYSE: SAP) and industry leader in enterprise and mobile software, today announced that in the recent Worldwide Mobile Device Management Enterprise 2010 – 2014 Forecast 2009 Vendor Shares report,1 leading IT market research advisory firm IDC recognized Sybase as the leader in mobile device management (MDM) enterprise software market for the ninth consecutive year.

“The need to cost effectively and safely embrace the widespread adoption of individual-liable devices in the enterprise has helped increase the interest in mobile device management and security,” said Stacy Crook, senior analyst for mobile enterprise research at IDC. “If not managed properly, consumer devices in the enterprise can introduce a whole new set of security concerns and costs, while adding another layer of complexity.”

“The mobile landscape is increasingly more complex with a steady flow of new devices being released and the need to securely mobilize business processes and corporate data from across the enterprise is becoming more critical for customers,” said Willie Jow, vice president of mobility marketing, Sybase. “Sybase Afaria, in combination with Sybase Unwired Platform, offers customers the most comprehensive, industry-leading solutions and managed mobility services through a strong partner ecosystem to help minimize these complexities. This recognition by IDC of Sybase as the mobile device management leader for an unprecedented ninth consecutive year is further proof of our success in achieving this goal.”

As defined by IDC, the Mobile Device Management Enterprise software provides standard features found in all desktop administration solutions, such as maintaining PC hardware and software inventories, performing software distribution, managing antivirus scan files and enabling remote control for systems diagnostics. In addition, MDM Enterprise solutions also include advanced functions that address the needs of mobile and wireless users, such as mobile security, support for offline and over-the-air wireless synchronization, and backup and recovery capabilities.
