Govt can’t expect security forces to win: BJP
India’s main Opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday said the Congress-led UPA government can not expect its security forces to ‘win’ against terrorism and extremism.
“It seems that the UPA Govt. is clueless and confused on the strategy to fight terrorism. Be it a Naxal challenge in the heartland or a challenge from separatists in Kashmir valley, government cannot expect security forces to win the battle against terrorism with their hands tied behind,” said BJP national spokesperson Prakash Javadekar.
“Govt. always asks the security forces to observe restrain but does not allow tough action against terrorists. Today the security forces are under tremendous pressure from both sides. On one hand it is a risk of being attacked by small but determined terrorists and on the other hand it is the constant fear of arrest for false, motivated and pre-meditated allegations of human rights violation,” he said.
‘We will continue to kill security personnel’
Mentioning the recent Maoist ambush that killed 27 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in Chhattisgarh’s Narayanpur district, Javadekar said: “Let us clearly understand that Naxalists are waging a war against the nation. There are no emotions and extraneous considerations in the issues.”
“It is a calculated game plan to spread its wings by making ferocious attacks on the security forces and the common people. The message is loud and clear that anybody opposing Naxalites will be liquidated. Govt. must show political will to combat this challenge to the sovereignty of the country. Govt. should not try to pass on the responsibility of fighting this menace on the state Govts.”
Talking about the recent tension in Kashmir valley, the BJP MP said the separatists have adopted a ‘low cost high impact’ mode of fighting.
“In Kashmir valley, separatists have adopted a new strategy of stone pelting, which is ‘low cost high impact mode’ of fighting. As security forces have liquidated middle level leadership of the terrorists over the years, the terrorist outfits have adopted this new strategy. Everyday trucks bring in stones in the by lanes of the area of protest. Young boys are lured to pelt stones on security forces for a payment. Security forces get injured but cannot retaliate for the fear of cases of human right violations,” said Javadekar.
“In both the cases, the confusion at central govt. level about the approach has caused a great damage. There needs a unified approach and command to mitigate the challenge,” he added.
Maoists kill two villagers for ‘spying’
At least 11 people, including eight teen-aged boys, were killed in clashes with security forces and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel in the last 17 days in Kashmir.
However, tension escalated since Monday after two persons, including a young boy, were killed in police firing in separate incidents.
The minor was killed during CRPF firing in the Delina area of Baramulla, while earlier on Monday a youth was killed in firing by personnel of the same security force in Sopore during a funeral procession.
Thousands of CRPF men and police men are deployed in all major towns across the 10 districts.
A large part of the state remained under curfew on Wednesday too.
