Great Bhet with the leading woman activist Pushpa Bhave on IBN-Lokmat

IBN-Lokmat salutes the endeavours of one of the most ardent supporters of the cause in its recent episode of Great Bhet. Nikhil Wagle, Editor, IBN-Lokmat in an exclusive Great Bhet will talk to Pushpa Bhave, the well known woman activist on Saturday, 6th March 2010 at 9:30 pm.

Born into a progressive middle-class family in 1939, Pushpa Bhave pursued her Masters in Marathi literature and Sanskrit from Deccan College, Pune and specialized in linguistics. During her days as a student in Elphinstone College, Bhave got deeply influenced by the wide divide between the political aspirations of the upper classes and those of the masses. During her career as a distinguished academician, Pushpa closely observed the plight of women of lower sections of society who bore the brunt of caste and gender. Taking this observation to the next level, Pushpa therefore went to become a champion for their upliftment.

Pushpa Bhave will share her experience of the iconic journey of ‘Samyukta Maharashtra movement’. The movement aimed at lending voice to the aspirations of the peasants and working-class people of Maharashtra.

It was the commitment to progressive values that made Bhave voice and act towards her convictions. Over the years Bhave has been the face of a number of other movements like the ‘Goa liberation Movement’ and the ‘Dalit Panther movement’. Apart from her journey as an activist, Bhave will also share her strong views and opinions on the political scenario of Maharashtra.
